Windows Live OneCare Software is discontinued

Microsoft has discontinued the retail sale of the Windows Live OneCare Software as of September 30, 2009 and new subscriptions are no longer being offered after this date. Customers with current subscriptions will receive continued support from Microsoft throughout the remainder of their subscription and the malware definition files for this Software will be updated during this time period.

Windows Live OneCare will not be updated to support the Windows 7 Operating System. Microsoft may be offering refunds for customers that have current subscriptions. If you are a retail customer that activated your subscription using a product key, login to the Microsoft Billing and Account Management Web site at billing.microsoft.com for refund information. If you are a direct customer that activated your subscription using a credit card, login to the Microsoft Web site at support.windowsonecare.com for FAQs and refund information.

Good news is that Microsoft will be offering a new security Software package called Microsoft Security Essentials for free. It indicates that finally Microsoft has accepted that users should not pay to keep their Windows based Computer protected.

NOTE: For more information about Microsoft's support of the Windows Live OneCare Software visit the Microsoft Web site at onecare.live.com.
