My computer has been upgraded at work to Windows 7 and there is much I like about the updated format, however I have been very distressed that many of my Word files and photographs have not "made it across". All folders copied fine, but sporadically (for no pattern that I can see) some of my folders are empty. I have tried to look at the flash that has the data backup, but it seems to be one huge "Easy Transfer File", I can't view individual components. Anyone have any advice or help? I can't imagine this information is lost for good, it must be somewhere, I am just not sure how to retrieve it.

It was upgraded from XP, and
It was upgraded from XP, and there were no error messages, just some of the folders, when I clicked on them said "no files found" as a standard response. Thanks for writing back! I did have success in the end using a chat window having someone technical from Microsoft rummage around in my computer and they found the information in a file called "windows.old". I was so relieved my work was not missing ! :) Now all that is left for me to do is to copy it out of this folder and back into the places where they belong.

windows.old folder backs up all the files during the upgrade
Oh.. Why didn't I think about it? :-( There is a knowledge article on this site which mentions about the windows.old folder. Thanks for sharing the resolution. Keep visiting. :-)
You've not specified if the Computer was upgraded from Windows XP or Windows Vista?
Are you getting any error messages when you click on those empty folders?
It can be an issue with the Permissions. Even with administrator rights, you have to take ownership of the folder and subfolders, then give yourself full control.
